November 2011: Son John and I are working on a screenplay together, Volcano Boys.
Writing partner (and son) John Murphy and I got some great feedback from an earlier version of the script, then titled Yardsticks. In June 2011 it was named a top ten finalist in the Comedy category of the StoryPros contest, and late in the summer finished in the top ten of the Acclaim contest. In August 2011 Yardsticks was awarded the third place honor in the Kay Snow contest sponsored by Willamette Writers during their terrific annual conference, held every year in Portland, OR. But the notes we received on the script also got us all excited about some re-working, and the end result will be, we believe, a more exciting and focused script: Volcano Boys.
Here’s our logline: “They have powers. They have issues. They have a volcano. And one of them’s about to blow.”
John and I are also doing remote prep on a closed-room, three-person script, and (along with John’s sister Rachel) a historical drama set in early nineteenth-century Geneva.
